About Us

Serving Athens Since 1956!
Ask any Athenian to share their memories of growing up in Athens and you will find getting a hand-dipped ice cream cone at Hodgson's Pharmacy is always at the top of the list.

In 1956 when Harold B. Hodgson - lovingly known as 'Doc' - bought and renamed Hodgson's Pharmacy he created An Athens Tradition. Doc worked to give Athens the very best in pharmaceutical care and expertise and taught his patients to expect a high level of customer service. With the support of his wife Ruby, he created a community resource that extended beyond Athens and impacted pharmacy throughout The State of Georgia. Doc served as President of the State Board of Pharmacy, President of the Georgia Pharmacy Association, and President of the local pharmacy association. Doc passed away in 2008 but his memory will always be cherished.

Alongside Doc, pharmacists Mack Lowrey and Chester Sosebee both practiced at Hodgson's Pharmacy for over 30 years each. They each contributed greatly to Hodgson's Pharmacy's knowledge, expertise, and success. Over the last 56 years Hodgson's Pharmacy has been a community center where the neighborhood gathers to have an ice cream, get its medications, and enjoy life in Athens.

In 2011 the Hodgson's family sold Hodgson's Pharmacy. Now co-owned by Dr. Christopher Thurmond and Dr. Rabun Neves, Hodgson's Pharmacy continues its commitment to the Athens community as a pioneering pharmacy resource and a neighborhood center. Hodgson's Pharmacy wishes to remain An Athens Tradition for many more generations to come. The hometown feel, the tradition of fast friendly service, and the hand-dipped ice cream cone remain an integral part of the Hodgson's Pharmacy experience

Rabun Wiley Neves, Pharm.D.

Dr. Rabun Neves graduated from The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in 2003. She immediately began working at Hodgson's Pharmacy alongside pharmacists 'Doc' Hodgson, Mack Lowrey, and Chester Sosebee.

Rabun left Hodgson's in 2004 and spent the next years working at UGA's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Elbert Memorial Hospital, then at Village Drug Shop. In August 2011 she returned to her first love -Hodgson's Pharmacy- as Pharmacist-In-Charge, manager, and soon became a partial owner. Rabun resides a few short blocks away and is lucky enough to walk to work daily.

Rabun happily continues Hodgson's long-standing commitment to the community - excellent hometown service, superior pharmaceutical knowledge, and delicious ice cream!

Lena Wiley

Lena grew up working in her family's store wrapping presents, ringing people up, and helping them pick out their purchases. When Rabun wanted to expand the gift shop in 2012, Lena jumped in and asked if she could help. Rabun immediately took her mom up on it and ever since this mom daughter duo have been merchandising the store. The lovely wooden shelves in Hodgson's Pharmacy are actually from Lena's parent's and grandparent's store.
